Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about tutoring? You’ll find answers here about AP and IB Biology tutoring, how online sessions work, scheduling, and what to expect when getting started.

Biology Tutoring & Courses

I specialize in AP Biology and IB Biology, including both SL and HL. I also work with students in university and private schools taking general or honors biology courses who want help strengthening their understanding of biology concepts, preparing for assessments, or building stronger study skills.

Tutoring is tailored to what each student needs. I can help with challenging biology concepts, coursework and test preparation, AP and IB exam preparation, data analysis, and scientific writing. I also work with students on IB Biology Internal Assessments (IAs), lab reports, experimental design, and science fair projects, including developing research questions, planning experiments, analyzing results, and interpreting data.

How Tutoring Works

Every tutoring session is tailored to the individual student and what they need that day. We might work through a challenging concept, review material from class, prepare for an upcoming assessment, or practice applying biological knowledge to unfamiliar questions. I focus on helping students understand the why behind biology rather than simply memorizing information, and I adjust my explanations and approach until we find what makes the concept click.

Yes. All tutoring sessions are held online via Zoom, so I can work with students regardless of where they live. Online tutoring also makes it easy for students to share class materials, diagrams, practice questions, and assignments so we can work through them together in real time.

It depends on the student and their goals. Many students choose to reserve a regular weekly time, which provides consistent support and ensures they have a spot in my schedule. Weekly students can also request additional sessions when they need extra support before an exam, for a difficult unit, or during a particularly busy part of the course. Other students prefer to schedule sessions only as needed. Occasional and last-minute sessions are always welcome, but availability depends on my schedule, so I can’t guarantee a spot on short notice.

Scheduling, Pricing & Getting Started

Individual tutoring sessions are $125 for 60 minutes. There are no packages or long-term commitments required. Students can reserve a regular weekly time or schedule individual sessions based on availability.

Yes. I offer small-group tutoring for students taking the same or similar biology course. Groups are typically organized by students or parents, and sessions can focus on course content, assessment preparation, or exam review. Contact me to discuss group size, scheduling, and pricing.

There is no charge for cancellations made before the day of the scheduled session. Same-day cancellations are charged 50% of the session fee. I understand that unexpected things come up, so please just let me know as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. Missed sessions without notice are charged the full session fee.

The first step is to get in touch through the contact form. Tell me a little about your student, the biology course they’re taking, and what they’d like help with. From there, we can discuss their needs, scheduling, and whether tutoring with me is a good fit. I’m also happy to arrange a free consultation before scheduling the first session.

AP & IB Biology Tutoring

Yes. I work with AP Biology students on both course content and the skills needed for the AP exam. Exam preparation can include reviewing challenging topics, practicing multiple-choice and free-response questions (FRQs), interpreting experimental data, analyzing graphs, and developing strategies for applying biological concepts to unfamiliar scenarios.

Yes. I tutor both IB Biology Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) students. Sessions can focus on understanding course content, strengthening data-analysis and application skills, preparing for assessments, or reviewing for IB Biology exams. I tailor tutoring to the student’s course level and the areas where they need the most support.

Yes. I can support students throughout the IB Biology Internal Assessment process while ensuring the work remains their own. I can help students develop and refine research questions, design appropriate experiments, identify and control variables, organize and analyze data, interpret results, and strengthen their scientific writing. I can also provide feedback that helps students understand how their work aligns with IB expectations without writing or completing the IA for them.

Yes. Exam preparation can be tailored to the individual student’s needs and where they are in the course. We can review challenging content, work through IB-style questions, practice interpreting data and unfamiliar scenarios, and identify areas that need additional review. I also help students develop strategies for understanding what questions are asking and constructing clear, focused answers that demonstrate their biological understanding.
